Google PageRank là gì?

http://inet.edu.vn/pagerank
Bạn hay theo dõi thứ hạng Alexa. Tình cờ bạn nghe được 2 webmaster tranh luận:
Webmaster A: Site của em vừa lên top 50k (50.000) Alexa rồi, mừng thiệt bác hehe!

What Are Low-Quality Pages and How Do You Fix Them?

What Are Low-Quality Pages and How Do You Fix Them?

Image Credit: Romana KleeIn some of my recent reviews of websitesthat have recently lost Google traffic, I've found a common thread: lots of low-quality content pages. But the interesting thing is that this wasn't the sort of low-quality contentcreated by some scammy SEO in an attempt to boost search engine rankings. This was low-quality content that was naturally created with no thought of the search engines.

What could be the matter with that?

Before the days of Google's Panda filters, most likely, nothing. But when Google let their Panda out of the zoo, some pages on some websites that were previously ignored, started to cause rankings and traffic problems for the overall website.

What might low-quality content pages contain?

For the most part, the type of low-quality content pages I'm talking about here simply don't contain much information at all. They may only have a few words or sentences outside of the global template of the page. Or they may contain information, but it's very similar to what's on other pages of the website. Most of the time these low-quality pages been dynamically generated by whatever content management system (CMS) the site is using. This is especially true of blog sites using WordPress or other blog software, as well as forum sites.

Let's look at some specific types of low-quality content:

  • Profile pages:

    • Empty - Many forums, blogs or other community sites encourage people to become members. In order to do so, they have to provide information that is used to create a profile page of that person. There's nothing inherently wrong with these, but some of them may be created with nothing more than a user name and a bunch of empty fields. So you can end up with hundreds, if not thousands, of nearly empty pages.

Spammy - Profiles have also been a target for spammers because some of them allow you to add links. Even those that don't specifically allow links can sometimes be hacked to include a link by a smarter-than-average web spammer.

Empty Profile Page With Spam Links

    Recommended Fix
: There are a few ways to deal with this. You could make profile pages invisible to anyone (including search engines) who isn't registered and logged in. Or you could add the noindex Meta tag to all profile pages. If you prefer to have your profile pages indexed, you might try to require more information than just a name so that there's less chance of the profile seeming empty. And if you allow links, be sure they are automatically tagged with the nofollow attribute. You may also keep all profiles invisible until they go through a manual human review.

  • Empty Directory or Search Results Pages: Websites that have a directory of sorts will often have a number of different categories. This is a great idea when there are enough items, people, or places that deserve to have their own category. But sometimes a website will get too granular in its categories and only have one (or sometimes zero) results contained within them.
  • Low-Quality Empty Directory Page
It's easy to see how this creates a poor user experience, and thus a low-quality content page.
  • Tag Pages: While adding tags to classify blog posts can make for a helpful way to browse a blog, creating an unlimited number of tags and tagging every post with a bunch of them creates tons of low-quality content tag pages. If a tag is so specific that only one post is tagged with it, the tag page itself will list only that one post. And if that post is tagged with other unique tags, a whole bunch of very similar stand-alone tag pages will be created that all just link to this one post. Which means they've defeated the purpose of tagging as a means of categorizing posts.

  • Recommended Fix: Don't use tags to stuff keywords on your pages (à la The Huffington Post). Instead, use them for their intended purpose by creating a limited number of them that correspond to their own unique category. This will provide an alternate way of browsing your blog, as well as more opportunities for Google to find and spider your pages.

If it's too late to start over with your tags and you've already got a crazy array of meaningless tags, then add the rel=nofollow to the tag links themselves, and add the "noindex, follow" Meta tag to the resulting tag pages themselves. This way you won't have all those duplicate pages indexed, but the search engines can still follow the links contained within them.
  • Posts that simply link to something else: You see something interesting on another site that you want to tell your readers about, so you dash off a quick blog post that says, "Here's an interesting article about whatever" and provide a link. Even worse is if you link to these "empty posts" from elsewhere on your site in the guise of providing actual information if they click the link. This only annoys your readers because they have to click yet again to get to what they really want to see.

  • Recommended Fix: A better place for quick recommendations would be to post it on your social media channels and/or link directly to the real content from elsewhere in your site where it makes sense to do so.

As you can see, whether or not you intended to have low-quality content pages on your website, you may have some anyway. Whether we agree with the way Google is handling this sort of content or not, the fact is, many sites have been negatively affected by it. Therefore you'd be smart to recheck your own site every so often for low-quality content and go through each of the recommended fixes to remove it ASAP!

5 Rookie SEO Mistakes That Can Kill Your Search Engine Traffic and Some Tools to Help

Mistakes. We all make them, and ideally we learn from them. But even the smallest of mistakes on your website can sometimes cause big problems. And big problems with a website can cause lost traffic, money and jobs.

With that in mind, here are 5 mistakes I've seen

often enough to warrant a mention. I hope that you can learn from others who weren't so lucky:

    1. Telling the search engines you don't want them to add your website to their database or follow its links.

If the pages of your website are not in Google's database, then there's no way you'll ever receive any search engine traffic -- targeted or otherwise. Not a week goes by when I don't see a website where somehow the "noindex, nofollow" meta tags have been inadvertently added to every page (or even just some pages) of the site. Most of the time, it's due to a WordPress setting that goes unnoticed when the website is first being designed. If you literally can't find any page of your site in Google, even for a search on the name of the site or the URL, view the source code to see if you have told Google that you don't want them to index your site.

I use a Chrome extension called "Nofollow," which highlights all links that have the nofollow attribute, and also pops up a little window if the page is set at "noindex." This simple extension is why I end up spotting this so often.

    2. Relying on SEO software to "optimize" your website.

Repeat after me: There is no specific number of times a keyword phrase should be used in my content. There is no magic number of words that my pages should have written on them. And there is no best number of words or phrases that belong in a Title tag. And most of all: There is no SEO software that can optimize my website (despite the claims of their creators).

Use your common sense to optimize your site! Learn how your target audience searches for products, services and information such as yours, and write about it accordingly on your website. Then write to make an emotional connection with your visitors so that they'll convert into happy customers.

    3. Improper redirecting of old pages (or sites) to new ones via a 302-redirect instead of a 301-redirect.

Whether you've changed your domain name to something different or you've redeveloped your website and all or most of your new URLs are different from the old ones, it's critical to redirect the old to the new via 301-redirects and not 302s. A 301-redirect causes Google to remove the old URL and also to pass the link popularity of the old URL to the new one. But a 302, while redirecting visitors to the correct new URL, will often still be indexed by Google. This causes duplicate content issues and PageRank splitting problems. That is, any links to the old URL will not pass "link juice" to the new one as long as it's redirected erroneously via a 302.

Check the http header status of your redirected URLs to see if they show a 301 or a 302 via the SEO Consultant's server header checker tool.

    4. Writing to your CEO instead of your customer.

When you're entrenched in the day-to-day activities of your business, you might forget that the words you use to describe what you do aren't necessarily the ones that will be used by those unfamiliar with what you do. The people who come to your site shouldn't need a translator to understand exactly what you do. And you know who the worst offenders are? Marketers! I fundamentally understand marketing at a commonsense level, because it's a fairly simple concept. Yet when I check out some marketing companies' websites, they might as well be speaking Martian. In addition to the gobbledygook that many companies write, they also don't always speak to their potential customer at all. Instead, they try to impress those customers with how great they are.

To fix these copywriting mistakes, find out the words people use to find products and services such as yours through keyword research, and then tell your potential customers what's in it for them, rather than how totally awesome YOU are.

    5. Creating a new site on a new domain and leaving the old site up as well.

I know that it's scary to develop a brand-new site -- especially if (for whatever reason) you must change domain names. But having 2 websites up at the same time is a recipe for disaster when it comes to the search engines. Every time I've seen this done (either on purpose or by mistake), the new website rarely gains any traction in the search engines as long as the old site is still alive and kicking. If you've spent time and money creating a kick-ass new website, don't kill its chances of people finding it through search engines by keeping your old cruddy (but highly ranking) site lurking in the background.

Be sure you follow best SEO redesign practices, 301-redirect all your old URLs to the new, and -- if you are changing domain names -- perform a "change of address" using your Google Webmaster Tools account. After you do these things, your new site should do at least as well as your old site did in the search engines. More likely than not, it will do even better!

There are probably 100 more SEO rookie mistakes that are made every day, but I hope that these 5 -- as well as the tools to help find and fix them -- provide you with a good start toward keeping your website mistake free!

    Tên miền không có www

DNS should be set to a domain name without the www
Thus, when the user use domain name without the www, can normally access your website.
SEO correctly handle the relations with www and without the www domain:
    1. We talked about the concept of the URL standardized , with www and non-www URL in the search engine seems two URL is different, when they point to the same site, will make the search engines do not understand should choose a URL as the main 's. Therefore, we recommend that qualified host a 301 redirect to the URL standardized set .
    2. If your host does not support a 301 redirect links in the form of the absolute address , the home of all links can also be a good solution to this problem.
    3. With www and without the www domain name search engine is equal, choose one as the main domain name, internal links and links to the main domain name, so that does not make the PR value of the dispersion.
    Rookie Guide:
Domain name without the www how to set up? Assuming your domain name is domain.com
DNS domain management background, set up two A records:
    www.domain.com point website IP
The spaces. domain.com pointing to the website IP
After the effective date, both through www.domain.com and domain.com normal access to the Home.

What is a broken link, and what causes it?
A broken link is a link that doesn't work, often resulting in an error page. A broken link happens when the link points to a web page that has been deleted or moved.
Why is it important to fix a broken link?
Links that are broken will effectively stop search engines from completely indexing your website.  Fixing or removing broken links from your website allows search engines to completely index and tells search engines that your website is not being neglected. As part of the optimization process we will test your Website's links and repair or remove any broken ones.
